Survey to Poll Cossatot Alumni Mailed
28 January 2005

DE QUEEN – A survey of alumni of Cossatot Community College of the University of Arkansas and its predecessor schools was mailed January 28th, according to Director of Marketing and Public Relations Mark Riley. Surveys will be mailed to more than 2,200 alumni to gather a wide range of information.

Riley said, “We are gathering this information to help us do a better job of helping our alumni, and, by extension, the College. We want to find out how our alumni are doing, and what we can do to help them do even better. Of course, we are interested in getting people into the habit of making contributions to the Foundation, but the primary purposes of the survey are to do a better job of serving current and future students and to help us apply for more and larger grants.”

He went on to describe the survey, which will collect information about alumni, their careers and families, their level of satisfaction with the education and services they received while at CCCUA and its predecessor schools, their future plans for their careers and additional education, and their interest in forming an alumni association to use as a means of networking with other alumni. “When people get the survey, they may think it’s going to take a long time to answer all the questions, but it actually shouldn’t take much more than fifteen minutes. We hope our alumni are willing to invest that small amount of time and a 37-cent stamp to have a positive impact on the future of their community college,” he said.

Riley requested that alumni return their surveys before February 14th. “We hope our alumni will send us a little valentine, some valuable information we can use for years to come. Of course, we will be happy to accept surveys after that date, but they’re a lot less likely to get lost in the shuffle around the house if they’re filled out and sent back to us right away,” he said.

He added, “You might not know this, but frequently, major foundations that make grants to small colleges and universities want to know what level of contact and participation a school has from its alumni. If the level is not high enough, they will recommend that the school take some steps to remedy that deficiency and then reapply. Since we are starting from scratch, we are hoping that we will receive a great number of the surveys back right away so we can attach the data to some grants that are in process.”

Cossatot Community College offers both technical certification and Associate’s degrees in a wide range of fields on its campus at De Queen, at extension sites at Nashville and Ashdown, and at cccua.edu. CCCUA collaborates with other colleges and universities to offer bachelor's and master's degrees on its three campuses.  It has an enrollment of more than 1,000 students, and is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
