SAU Returns to De Queen Via Interactive Video
Release Date: 30 July 2003

DE QUEEN – Two upper-level courses will be offered at CCCUA by Southern Arkansas University at Magnolia, according to Kathy Cole, SAU-Magnolia’s Assistant Director of University Technology Services. The courses will be taught at CCCUA’s three sites using the College’s Interactive Video labs, which were acquired through a grant from the Rural Development Administration.

The courses are as follows:

MGMT 3023, Organizational Theory and Behavior. Offered each semester, this course is designed to develop competence in the following areas: motivation, job design, measurement and rewards, stress, leadership culture, and international/ethics diversity. It is a study of human behavior in business organizations, with special attention paid to management leadership responsibilities. Registrants should have completed their freshman year and some sophomore-level business core classes.

The class meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:00 am – 12:20 pm from August 20-December 12. The text for this course is “Organizational Behavior” by Moorhead/Griffin, available through the Follett Bookstore at SAU for $115.75, by calling (870) 235-4050. For registration information, call SAU’s Admissions Office at (870) 235-4040. For more course information, contact the Dean’s office, College of Business, (870) 235-4300.

CCCUA Vice Chancellor Kristin Bowden said, “This course counts toward our Associate of Applied Science in Business degree, and it will transfer to other institutions. We wanted to offer it as a means of getting our students a little deeper into the business curriculum than they have been able to previously.”

IEC 3003. History. Philosophy and Curriculum. This course is an introduction to the early childhood education profession, including its historical foundations and philosophical bases, as well as introducing theories of early childhood education. It examines the concepts of quality and developmental appropriateness, indicators for high quality early childhood programs, and research on early intervention programs.

For registration information, contact the SAU Admissions Office at (870) 235-4040. For course information, contact the Dean’s office in the College of Education at (870) 235-4057. This class meets Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 12:10 to 1PM, beginning August 20th.

Bowden said, “This course will count as an elective in our Associate of Arts degree. We are working toward getting an entire BSE in Early Childhood Education at CCCUA, and this course will help determine the level of interest for this program. We will also conduct a student and community survey later this year to get some hard numbers on which we can base a decision to go forward.”

Bowden added, “We’re very excited about offering these two courses from SAU via our AV labs. SAU was our original degree-granting body during the time when CCCUA was seeking accreditation from NCA, so it’s like getting back together with an old friend.”

Cossatot Community College offers both technical certification and Associate’s degrees in a wide range of fields on its campus at De Queen, at extension sites at Nashville and Ashdown, and at cccua.edu. It has an enrollment of more than 1,000 students, and is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools’ Commission on Higher Learning.
