2 MMR Vaccinations Now Required For CCCUA Students
Release Date: 10 NOV 2003

DE QUEEN – Kay Cobb, Dean of Student Services at Cossatot Community College of the University of Arkansas, has noted that as of July 1, 2003, the Arkansas Department of Health now requires students provide proof of two inoculations for Measles / Mumps / Rubella (MMR).

Cobb said, “The Arkansas Department of Health has revised the requirements from one MMR vaccine to two. We’re implementing their new policy, beginning with pre-registration for the spring semester.” She added that the policy states that students who graduated from an Arkansas high school in 2001 and after are already in compliance, and that persons born before January 1, 1957 are exempted. “Anyone who plans to attend Cossatot in the Spring needs to make sure they have 2 MMR vaccines or an exemption. Otherwise, they will not be allowed to enroll,” she said.

She also noted that persons with medical exemptions must contact the Department of Health at (501) 661-2438, prior to registration and submit proof of this exemption to the Registrar before they will be allowed to register.

As an aid in helping students and prospective students meet this immunization requirement, the Sevier County Health Department will be on the De Queen campus in Room B-6 November 19th from 9-11 AM, and again November 20th from 1-3 PM to give these inoculations. There is a $5.00 fee.

She concluded by stating that the College is working with the Departments of Health in Howard and Little River Counties to provide the same services, but no dates have been set at this time.

Cossatot Community College offers both technical certification and Associate’s degrees in a wide range of fields on its campus at De Queen, at extension sites at Nashville and Ashdown, and at cccua.edu. It has an enrollment of more than 1,000 students, and is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools’ Commission on Higher Learning.
