DE QUEEN – Kay Cobb, Dean of Student Services at Cossatot Community College of the University of Arkansas, has announced that the Howard County Health Unit will offer MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccinations at CCCUA’s Nashville Extension during registration for the Spring, 2003 semester. Spring registration will be held at Nashville Monday, January 12. The cost of the shot is $5, and shots will be available from 9AM to 4PM.
Cobb said, “The Arkansas Department of Health has revised the requirements from one MMR vaccine to two. We’re implementing their new policy, offering the shots at Nashville as a part of registration for the spring semester there.” The De Queen Health Unit offered vaccinations as part of the pre-registration held at CCCUA’s main campus in De Queen in November.
Cobb added that the policy states that students who graduated from an Arkansas high school in 2001 and after are already in compliance, and that persons born before January 1, 1957 are exempted. “Anyone who plans to attend Cossatot in the Spring needs to make sure they have 2 MMR vaccines or an exemption. Otherwise, they will not be allowed to enroll,” she said.
She also noted that persons with medical exemptions must contact the Department of Health at (501) 661-2438, prior to registration and submit proof of this exemption to the Registrar before they will be allowed to register.
Cossatot Community College offers both technical certification and Associate’s degrees in a wide range of fields on its campus at De Queen, at extension sites at Nashville and Ashdown, and at cccua.edu. It has an enrollment of more than 1,000 students, and is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools’ Commission on Higher Learning.
