CCCUA Ranks First in Internet Credit Hours
20 May 2004
DE QUEEN – Steve Cole, Chair of the Distance Education Division at Cossatot Community College of the University of Arkansas, has announced that, for the year ending May 6, 2004, CCCUA was ranked #1 among all Arkansas two- and four-year colleges in the number of credit hours taken by students enrolled in internet- or internet-enhanced courses. More than 7,100 credit hours were earned online by CCCUA students in the past year. CCCUA offers no internet-enhanced courses, which include some in-classroom time. Most online classes carry three credit hours per semester.
Arkansas Tech University at Russellville came in second with 6,640 credit hours, and ASU-Beebe was third, with 5,876. UA-Monticello was fourth, with 3,037, and UALR was fifth with 3,000.
The report was issued as part of a memorandum from Ron Harrell, Assistant Director of Planning and Accountability with the Arkansas Department of Higher Education for publication by SREB, the Southern Regional Education Board. SREB sponsors the Southern Regional Electronic College, a consortium of colleges offering a wide variety of online classes at www.sreb.org.
Cole said, “We are obviously very pleased to have come out at the very top for all two- and four-year colleges in the state. This report demonstrates that, not only are we aggressively courting the online student with our large roster of classes, the students are responding enthusiastically to what we offer.”
Cossatot Community College offers both technical certification and Associate’s degrees in a wide range of fields on its campus at De Queen, at extension sites at Nashville and Ashdown, and at cccua.edu. It has an enrollment of more than 1,100 students, and is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
