CCCUA Adult Ed Department to Begin Classes at BPB-Nashville
09 September 2004
DE QUEEN – Beginning about September 12th, opportunity will come knocking for employees at BPB-Gypsum in Nashville. That’s when Adult Education instructor Terry Reed will begin teaching classes on-site, using one of the two forty-foot trailers used by Cossatot Community College of the University of Arkansas for this kind of instruction. The trailers were acquired by CCCUA in 2002 as part of a grant from the U.S. Department of Education written by the College and several other community organizations. Forty-three BPB employees recently signed up to take advantage of services offered through the College’s Adult Education Department.
CCCUA Adult Ed spokesperson Laurie Kirkpatrick said the majority of students will be taking advantage of the computer literacy program. The lab will be taken to the plant, and become the "classroom" for these BPB employees. This endeavor was made possible through collaboration of the Adult Education Department, Cossatot Community College's Workforce Development and Continuing Education Department and BPB.
Cossatot Community College offers both technical certification
and Associate’s degrees in a wide range of fields on its campus at De
Queen, at extension sites at Nashville and Ashdown, and at cccua.edu. It has
an enrollment of more than 1,100 students, and is accredited by the Higher
Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
