DE QUEEN, Ark. — Representatives from Howard County and Sevier County Economic Development recently participated in the SelectUSA Investment Summit, one of the nation’s leading events focused on international business investment and economic growth opportunities within the United States.

The initiative was originally led by Howard County Economic Development, with Sevier County joining the effort through the strong regional partnership shared under UA Cossatot. As the employer and institutional partner supporting economic development efforts across multiple counties where it maintains campuses and workforce presence, UA Cossatot continues helping connect communities, strengthen workforce strategies, and support long-term regional competitiveness.

The summit brought together international companies, foreign direct investment representatives, site selectors, utility partners, federal agencies, and economic development leaders from across the world. Participation by Howard County and Sevier County helped showcase Southwest Arkansas as a region committed to growth, workforce development, business readiness, and strategic collaboration.

For rural communities, opportunities like SelectUSA provide critical international exposure and direct access to conversations surrounding future investment, manufacturing expansion, supply chain opportunities, and emerging industry trends.

“Communities today must be proactive and visible in order to compete for investment opportunities,” said Veronica Ozura, Economic Development Director for Sevier County. “This was an important opportunity not only to represent our local communities but also to help elevate Southwest Arkansas in international economic development conversations.”

Howard County leaders also emphasized the importance of regional collaboration and ensuring rural Arkansas maintains a presence in national and international investment discussions.

“We recognized the value of this opportunity early on and believed it was important for our region to have a seat at the table,” said Vanessa Weeks, Economic Developer for Howard County. “Economic development is increasingly regional, and partnerships like this help strengthen visibility, relationships, and long-term opportunities for all of Southwest Arkansas.”

UA Cossatot continues serving as a key regional partner through workforce training, industry collaboration, and educational initiatives that support both existing employers and future business recruitment efforts. The college’s involvement reflects a broader commitment to ensuring the region remains competitive, connected, and prepared for long-term economic growth.

Together, Howard County, Sevier County, and UA Cossatot continue strengthening regional partnerships and building visibility for Southwest Arkansas on both a national and international stage.
